Speaking of the LC craze over at Safeway, not all of them have this stuff, but it's worth looking for: Keto brand ice creams.
They're not for people on induction, but otherwise..
They come in pints like B&J, and I've seen 5 flavors so far, a cherry-chocolate chip flavor that is very much like Cherry Garcia, a rocky road flavor, a vanilla, a butter pecan, and a standard chocolate. I've only tried the cherry-choc chip and rocky road ones but they are the only LC ice cream I've tried that doesn't taste awful and/or have a chalky texture.
It's better when you let it soften up first, and it's not cheap $4.50/pint, but it really hits that ice cream craving.

Re: LC ice cream that's actually GOOD
Mon, May 3, 2004 - 11:49 PMSince I am doing South Beach and not Atkins..some of those LC ice creams are totally off limits because of the high fat content. What I did find at Safeway though and it is darn yummy....Dryers *no sugar added* ( made with splenda) low fat ice cream. Got the butter pecan. YUMMY. 120 calories, 4 grams of fat, 9 net carbs (how ice cream has 4 grams of fiber I have no clue, and probably happy that way!) So if 9 net carbs is not high for you Atkins folks, I definitely would try it! -

Re: LC ice cream that's actually GOOD
Wed, August 4, 2004 - 12:05 AMI have to say that I tried some of the NSA Dreyer's, and it had the same problem that alot of the first low-carb ice creams did: it tastes like plastic, and the texture is a little suspect. I left about 15% in the bottom of a half-gallon of that stuff in the freezer and just re-discovered it over the weekend..and it had morphed into a truly scary, rubbery chocolate-brown substance that would NOT come out of the carton. Eek.
Just one more good NSA ice cream to suggest: Blue Bunny makes a handful of good no sugar added (Splenda) ice creams now...the best two in my opinion are the Bunny Tracks (very much like the Safeway Moose Tracks flavor) and Banana Split. Texture is properly creamy and there's no Splenda aftertaste that I noticed.
I am noticing that I am having the same reaction that alot of people here mentioned to maltitol and other sugar-alcohols...but only in LC sweets, it seems. Gives me terrible gas and intestinal unhappiness. It's funny though, the maltitol in protein bars never did this to me, and I eat at least one daily.
